South Sea Shell Pearl Jewelry
Shell pearls are organic. They are made from nacre (mother of pearl) that is deposited on the inside of oyster shells, not a simulated material. They are formed through a complex procedure and have the high gloss and look of very large salt water pearls with superior luster and surface quality. Although they are not inexpensive, they look similar to very expensive South Sea Seawater Pearls at a fraction of the cost. |

Using Saltwater Pearl Nacre In South Sea Shell Pearls
Most South Sea Pearls are cultured because of the rarity of natural ocean gems. The oyster secrets nacre to cover the bead that is inserted into the shell to create the pearl. The longer the pearl stays in the oyster, the more nacre will be layered onto the pearl. At the same time, nacre is deposited on the inside of the shell. After the pearls are harvested, the nacre inside these shells is used to make South Sea Shell Pearls.
